Episode 10

The show begins with Maria singing on a stage constructed from a gundam hand. This was done in Gundam Seed Destiny.

Nagi and Sakuya are playing Dragon Hero Quest on Famicon. The game is hooked-up to a “Papapanic” television. Piled in the back of the room are:

  • Power Glove
  • personal computer
  • :?: Some game accessory that looks like half of a deformed basketball. I’ve seen it before, but don’t know the name.
  • a dual-stick controller (for Robotron)
  • a Sega Genesis controller
  • Famitsu magazine

Nagi has tied her hair using bells like Asuna (Negima). Sakuya’s hair pin is a neko version of Hen na Ikimono (Digi Charat).

During the game, a Lost Santa appears. Hayate attacks and misses. Santa hits for 69372 damage and kills Hayate.

Sakuya and Nagi are insulted by the game and as they take out their frustrations on the console, Maria tells them dinner is ready. (Stuffed bell peppers, also the meal Jet prepared in Cowboy Bebop episode 1. Very delicious, especially when topped with cheddar cheese.) Taped to the wall is a sign that reads “Sense the Dream” (Freedom OVA). Other signs are “Tokachi Tsukuchite” (a song in the IdolM@ster game), a ladder diagram, and a reminder that Nagi can only play video games for one hour each day.

Nagi awakes the next morning and says, “The sun… why does it rise every morning?”

In the screening room, Nagi and Maria are watching episode 8 on a “Pony” television. Nagi is wearing a jacket with a Kame kanji from Dragonball Z.

Sakuya discovers the evil game console and summons her bodyguards who do the Fusion dance (Dragonball). They end up buried in an avalanche of takoyaki.

The demon’s lair is Kami’s Lookout on top of Karin Tower (Dragonball). Sitting on the window sill are Shichimi and Motsu from Negima?! By now you should be recognizing Yuko Goto who was also the voice of Mikuru (Suzumiya Haruhi no Yuutsu). Her name is “The Great Stygian Abe (temp)” from the Stygian Abyss of Ultima Underworld. She is being punished (because she’s evil) by Dokurobe (Yattaman) stuck on her head. When she presses the button, she says “pochitto”. A Girochin-brand fishing rod (Guillotine Society) drops Famicon controllers around the mansion. In Klaus’s office, there are two life-size Hayate dolls (one of them nekomimi) and two statues of Detective Conan. Another Conan status is outside in the garden, next to Onsokumaru (Ninin ga Shinobuden). Later, the statue appears with a Busou Renkin mask. Her traps almost all fail, many because of a group of Agent Smiths (Matrix).

Risa, Miki, and Izumi are captured and sent into the game world using the Doraemon time machine. A slime appears and a death sentence counter begins on Risa. She is hit with 42837 damage and dies. The slime asks for their “Final Answer?” (Who Wants to Be a Millionaire) The slime then attacks with the head of Ayanami Rei (Evangelion movie). As Miki hides behind Risa’s coffin, Izumi is left to take the brunt of the attack, which is interrupted by a lightning bolt by the demon. The lightning defeats the slime, but leaves Izumi with just one HP and the hairstyle of Isono Sazae. It also makes a flower that looked like Jake Blues now look like Jimi Hendrix.

The girls, including the Risa’s corpse, try to make it through the game while Nekomimi Hayate sings an image song. Risa complains that her coffin is uncomfortable and the girls promise to revive her at the next town. So she also asks for a “Pocari” (type of soft drink) and they find out she’s been listening to music and playing cell phone games.

Isumi has woken up and senses an evil presence, but she doesn’t know where it is so she just takes a bath. Nagi, who has hung pictures of Vic Viper (Gradius, a NES game) in the mansion, is reading Fan Road magazine. Since she doesn’t have a role in this episode, she cuts to commercial.

Taurus, Cancer, Aries, Sagitarius, Virgo, Aquarius, Pisces, Cancer, Capricorn, Leo, Libra

Unable to revive Risa, Miki resorts to throwing her cell phone like Gatekeepers 21. Then she decides to just make a normal call. Hinagiku shows up right away after defeating all the enemies with a small stick.

To help them finish the game, the demon sends them an arm from Unit 00 when equipped with shield (Neon Genesis Evangelion), and some other stuff, what seems to be a staff, the upper half of a gundam, and a knight-ish head.

After Nagi and Maria read some fan mail, Klaus introduces the final battle scene as Akuma with Ken and Ryu lying dead on the floor. Hina, Risa, Miki, and Izumi’s newly acquired weapons and armor are items from Otogi-Jushi Akazukin. The demon is easily defeated by a pan falling on her head.

In the mean time, Isumi and Sakuya are stuck in a pile of takoyaki. Isumi spits out a tiny Onsokumaru.
